Members of the NZTBA are entitled to a range of benefits. The annual fee of $225 (Incl. GST)* goes towards supporting the NZTBA as they endeavour to advocate for and promote the well-being of NZ thoroughbred breeders and their horses.
What We Do
EducationWe facilitate the Irish National Stud & Sunline Management scholarships and work closely with NZTR on the Level 3 & 4 breeding courses attracting young talent into the industry.
TaxationWe have a long history of lobbying political figures and engaging with Inland Revenue to ensure tax policy is fair. We also produce the renowned Bloodstock Taxation Guide written by John Aubrey.
EnvironmentWe have been categorised the same as dairy, we are different, and we have had big success in changing regulations so that they are horse specific. We engage with partners such as Federated Farmers to make sure new policy is the best it can be for us
WelfareWe work closely with NZTR around rehoming of thoroughbreds and welfare. We work with organisations such as the Rural Support Trust to promote mental health & wellbeing.
Promoting BreedersEngaging with organisations such as NZTR, Entain, TAB, NZB and all political parties and government departments to make sure breeders voices are heard.
National Breeding AwardsRun by our Waikato Branch, the National Breeding Awards is the premier night on the breeding calendar, celebrating the achievements of the last 12 months.
Entain - NZB Pearl SeriesThe NZTBA administers the Entain-NZB Insurance Pearl Series, providing bonuses up to $2.9 million per season for southern hemisphere-bred fillies and mares aged two to five. Race bonuses total $28,000 each, with a $100,000 final, benefiting owners, trainers, and breeders across New Zealand with races held nationwide.
Equine Health & ResearchThe ongoing study and promotion of equine health & research is a top priority for us. We hold places on the boards of the NZ Equine Research Foundation and NZ Equine Health Associaton, as well as working with the likes of Massey University to ensure we continue to foster knowledge of the thoroughbred.
