The International Thoroughbred Breeders’ Federation (ITBF) concluded its highly successful 4-day conference with its biennial General Meeting, yesterday (June 9th) in Newmarket.
The conference was attended by 23 of its 25 member countries, from 6 continents.
Over 40 delegates having already gathered at Epsom, ahead of the Newmarket programme, to attend the ITBF Derby Experience, generously provided by the Jockey Club.
The programme included visits to all the leading Newmarket stallion studs, as well as the two equine veterinary hospitals.
A half-day veterinary meeting plus an all-day General Meeting, covered areas of worldwide interest and included presentations on varying subjects from, amongst others, the JRA (Japan Racing Association), Weatherbys, SITA (Society of International Thoroughbred Auctioneers), the TBA, The TBA of Chile and TB Australia.
At the General Meeting, ITBF members voted unanimously to continue to stand resolute against the use of artificial breeding methods (Artificial Insemination, Embryo Transfer, Cloning, Sexing of sperm, Genetic engineering/manipulation, and other possible methods yet to be defined).
The Newmarket conference was deemed a resounding success by all delegates, who, despite a very busy schedule, also found time for furthering worldwide professional networking. The hosting of 4 consecutive evenings at the National Horseracing Museum, the Jockey Club Rooms, Queens College, Cambridge and Lanwades Stud providing a perfect opportunity for attendees to interact.
ITBF was supported by an impressive list of leading Thoroughbred industry organisations, whose generous sponsorship enabled such an extensive programme of events to be provided.
The ITBF will continue working to advance and protect the interests of Thoroughbred breeders’ interests, throughout the world.
Its next General Meeting will be hosted by Japan in 2024.
