Following on from the success of last year, Windsor Park Stud returned to Christchurch for their Rugby Racing and Beer Sports Luncheon and Yearling Sale.
A full house of 200 people attended the lunch which was described by Windsor Park Stud proprietor Rod Schick as pretty positive and well received.
“The guests viewed the nine yearlings in the parade ring at Riccarton Racecourse before enjoying lunch, where they were entertained by leading Victorian trainer Ciaron Maher,” he said.
“And from the rugby side Dave Duley and Nick Hewson had plenty of banter to add. Both have had very successful rugby careers and are now making a name for themselves in the thoroughbred industry. Matt Cross did a super job as MC.
“Following that Steve Davis auctioned the nine yearlings and they all sold, with Te Akau paying $67,500 for a Turn Me Loose filly. Three yearlings stayed in the South Island, two went to Australia and the rest came back to the North Island.
“We were delighted with the support and thanks to some sponsorship packages we raised some funds for Ali Stokes, who is a paraplegic following an accident as a trackwork rider.
“It will be hard to top next year, but it is important for us to keep going to the South Island.”
Schick went on to thank those who helped make the sale a success including the bidders and purchasers of the yearlings, those in attendance on the day, the sponsors Arion Pedigrees, Majestic Horse Transport and Canterbury Jockey Club, MC Matt Cross and Auctioneer Steve Davis who both made the event so entertaining and all the Windsor Park staff who pulled out all stops to make it happen.
