If you are keen to see the foals of the first season sires of 2019, then mark down June 20th in your diary.
The Waikato branch is hosting a parade of first season sire weanlings, featuring foals by stallions who stood their first season at stud in 2019 and produced their first foals in 2020.
It’s an initiative the Waikato branch trialled successfully two years ago but were not able to host in 2020 due to the Covid lockdown.
“With a good group of young stallions, and the positive response we received after the first one, we thought the time was right to have another parade,” branch vice-president Scott Calder said.
“It gives breeders the opportunity to see the stock of the first season sires before they make their breeding decisions for the next season. Any extra information helps when making mating decisions and it can be beneficial to see what kind of product the stallions are putting on the ground before making those decisions.”
The progeny of seven stallions will be showcased in the parade - Ace High (AUS), Ardrossan (AUS), Embellish (NZ), Eminent (IRE), Ocean Emperor (NZ), Staphanos (JPN) and US Navy Flag (USA).
The parade will commence at 10am and finish around 3pm visiting Cambridge Stud, Brighthill Farm and Novara Park in Cambridge before moving on to Rich Hill Stud, Waikato Stud, Weowna Park, and Valachi Downs in the Matamata area. A full itinerary of the parade and approximate times will be released closer to the event.
“Hopefully it will become an annual event on the calendar just like our stallion parade and stud tour in August,” Calder said.
