The NZTBA is pleased to announce that specialist commercial law firm Morrison Mallett is the latest sponsor to join our stable of corporate business partners.
With offices in both Wellington and Auckland, Morrison Mallett’s partners are highly experienced lawyers with particular expertise in the primary industries. They regularly advise clients on a wide range of commercial law matters including business structuring, mergers and acquisitions, commercial contracts, succession issues, property and trusts.
Morrison Mallett’s dispute resolution team also advises a variety of clients on commercial disputes, including property, contract and livestock disputes. The firm has in depth industry knowledge enabling them to assist with NZTBA members’ legal needs.
Auckland based partner Victoria Anderson was instrumental in negotiating the partnership. With a strong involvement in the thoroughbred industry, she sees the partnership as an equally beneficial opportunity for Morrison Mallett and NZTBA.

As a student in Edinburgh University with a background in equine sports, Anderson became involved with racehorses, riding first for a local trainer in Scotland and then in Western Australia. After she graduated with a Master of Arts (Hons) she moved to Matamata where she rode trackwork and strapped for Lance Noble, and met her future husband Regan Donnison who was a trainer at the time. She also completed an LLB with honours at Waikato University.
Anderson can claim to have various roles in the industry having also been involved as an owner, a breeder, and as a current director of the Auckland Racing Club.
“With my background in the industry together with our team’s legal expertise, I am looking forward to supporting NZTBA members with their businesses and assisting them navigate legal issues that may arise.”
According to NZTBA CEO Justine Sclater, the NZTBA can see numerous advantages in having Morrison Mallett as partners.
“We have already discussed putting together some industry standard documentation that can be commonly used by members for various partnerships in an effort to avoid disputes,” said Sclater.
“It gives us access to the expertise I need to direct members to, if they want to establish partnerships arrangements or agreements, and to help them get advice if they are involved in disputes. If we can help members set things up robustly in the beginning by getting suitable agreements in place, then maybe they won’t get into disputes.”
