Race Images is one of New Zealand’s leading racing photography companies based in Feilding, covering racing right across the North Island as well as reciprocal arrangements for South Island meetings.
What is your industry involvement and how did you become involved
I am a freelance racing photographer who started with an after school job as a teenager and it was such fun so 38 years later I have never left
What is the one thing you would rather pay someone to do rather than do yourself ?
Clean the BBQ!
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I am a woodworker and enjoy furniture making
What is something that amazes you?
The athleticism of our jockeys – every race day they continues to amaze me as athletes
Who has had the most impact on your life?
My wife Shona who continually supports me in my 6 day a week job
What is the most unusual place you have ever visited?
Being able to be let on board the nuclear submarine the USS Pintado as nine year old when it berthed in Auckland Harbour – I don’t think many people can say they have done this!
What is the hardest part of your job?
The long hours - especially working public holidays therefore missing out on time with my family
Name your first pet and what was it?
A Lamb called Daisy (like a million other lambs called Daisy)
Name one item you can’t leave home without?
My camera!
My worst photographer nightmare
Running through the birdcage cage to photograph the winning post without my camera – a common racing photographer nightmare!
What piece of art have you seen that you have never forgotten?
The Winchester Cathedral – a special place and a special day
