NZTR put the educational opportunities and qualifications it offers in front of a large group of school students attending the Careers Expo held at Cambridge Raceway, on Wednesday 8 August.
The main organiser - NZTR Training Adviser Kay Hogan, with assistance from Vicki Pascoe, Matthew Barnsley and Sally Waters who assembled an attractive booth on site, and were on hand to talk to prospective students and their parents. Chris Watson and Wendy Cooper also made themselves available over the day to lend their support.
One of the drawcards was the mechanical horse, on which jockey, Anna Jones capably demonstrated her riding technique, motivating several of the students to have a go.
There was much support from various factors of the equine industry – NZTBA gave stallion registers, Cambridge Equine Hospital donated a super jacket for the lucky draw and the caps provided by Love Racing were very popular.
The expo provided a good number of enquiries for the education team to follow up and was a great opportunity to showcase career paths for young people who are passionate about horses. - Kay Hogan NZTR Training Advisor
