Once again a New Zealand student has excelled at the Irish National Stud Thoroughbred Breeders Course.
For the past six months Cameron Ring has been studying in Ireland and last week he graduated from the Diploma course with Honours. He travelled to Ireland to study as a recipient of the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders Association (NZTBA) Keith and Faith Taylor Equine Scholarship sponsored by the Taylor Family.
According to Sally Carroll of the Irish National Stud, Cameron had a fine work ethic and gave 100 per cent to all aspects of the course.
“Cameron was a fantastic ambassador for New Zealand and the NZTBA and he created a very good impression with all our staff, guest lecturers and on our visits to various equine establishments,” she said.
“He was a team player, totally reliable and carried out all tasks, assignments, visits with enthusiasm and attention to detail.”
Ring will shortly return to New Zealand where he will join the staff at the Taylor Family’s farm Trelawney Stud to put his diploma to good use.
He joins a long list of successful NZTBA scholarship recipients since the first student went in 1991, who have excelled at the course and continue to work in the thoroughbred industry in New Zealand and throughout the world.
“The course would of had to been the best six months of my life!” he told the NZTBA shortly after he graduated.
“So many highlights but I'd say the visits across various stud farms and training yards around Ireland were a huge part of it. Overall just getting to know and becoming lifelong friends with theother 24 students on the course with me was my favourite part".
I'm staying on to work for a trainer in the Curragh, Adrian Keatley, for a few weeks. Started this week and I've joined at a very hectic time! I am also looking forward to starting work at Trelawney.”
Ring grew up and went to school in Matamata, on leaving school he studied at Lincoln University on a Future Leaders Scholarship where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in rural valuation. While at university he decided he would explore the breeding side of the industry and spent his holidays working at Waikato Stud.
Once he had completed his studies he took up a full-time role at the stud, learning all aspects of breeding, foaling, weaning, preparing yearlings and breaking in, giving him an ideal grounding for the diploma course in Ireland.
The Keith and Faith Taylor Scholarship is just one of two scholarships available through the NZTBA with the other being the Sunline International Management Scholarship.
