Impressive maiden winner Tattybogler was named after a bottle of wine according to her part-owner trainer Kylie Fawcett.
At the presentation of the NZB Pearl Bonus that the Moshe(AUS) filly won at Counties recently, Fawcett recalled seeing the name on a bottle of Central Otago Pinot Noir and thinking it would be a good name for a horse.
"It's a Scottish word for a scarecrow," she explained, "and trust me this filly can be a really scary crow at times, she can't be trusted, so I thought it suited her."
Tattybogler was having only her third race day start when she cleared maidens at Counties and was placed second and third respectively in her previous starts.
"She has always shown ability but I am quite happy she hadn't won until today otherwise I wouldn't have picked up the Pearl Bonus. It's a fantastic scheme and I promised myself that if I won this race I would nominate the two yearling fillies I have at home as well," said Fawcett.
Fawcett and her partner in the horse Rob Joyce had their stake earnings for the race boosted by an extra $10,000 with the addition of the bonus. Also, Fawcett received an extra $1000 as a bonus for being the trainer, and $500 for being the nominator.
