After the impressive Group One win by Aide Memoir(Remind[USA]-Explain) in the Captain Cook Stakes, Canterbury breeders Debbie Clark and Myles Gordon, are toasting the success of their much under-rated stallion Remind(USA)(Deputy Minister[USA]-Watch the Tme[USA]).
"It's very exciting, Remind now has a Group One winner, especially when you consider that he hasn't ever had a big amount of mares or a big amount to the races. We are absolutely rapt for him," enthused a delighted Clark.
"We love him to bits and he will be here forever, but unfortunately breeders don't feel the same way we do. He leaves a lovely type, and they have lovely temperaments buy unfortunately owners and trainers don't want to wait for them as three and four-year-olds".
"The trainers that have taken the time with them have had the success with them. We are racing one from his first crop called Mister Spiderman and he is still sound at eight-years-old".
"Remind had seven colts foals this season, and this year he has only served 12 mares and there is one more to come. Most of the mares are ours, including Criquette(Forensic Evidence[IRE]- Sophie Ro) which is a half-sister to Bechtolsheimer who was a top performer for Remind".
"After Bectolsheimer retired, Glenis Munro her breeder and owner gave us Criquette to breed from and thus she is carrying a three-quarter relation to Bechtolsheimer."
Clark also hopes that Remind's recent success will help with the yearlings they have to sell this summer.
"We have three colts going to Karaka in the Festival sale and they are all lovely colts, and all quite well related," she added.
The Remind colts in the Long Acres draft are out of the O'Reilly mare Barbarelle, who has already left three winners including two by Remind, a Senor Pete mare Kaytee who is from the family of Silent Achiever and Merry Diamond a sister to the Group One winner Ambitious Owner. - Michelle Saba
