A bold front running display saw Its Time For Magic (Per Incanto (USA) - Tick Tock Time (NZ)) take out Listed Honours in The O'Leary's Fillies Stakes at Wanganui on Saturday. The tenacious filly ridden by Sam Spratt held off the determined challenge of Group 1 winner Luna Rosa (Written Tycoon (Aus) – Wild Promises (AUS) with Queen of Zealand (Savabeel (AUS) - Queen Of Pop (NZ)) back in third place. Delighted winning Te Awamutu trainer Robert Priscott who with his wife Karen, are also part owners of the Little Avondale Stud homebred daughter of Per Incanto (USA) (Street Cry (IRE) - Pappa Reale(GB)).
Purchased by Robert Priscott from Little Avondale Stud's 2014 National Weanling, Broodmare and Mixed Bloodstock Sale draft for $1,200, Its Time For Magic has now taken her career earnings to $35,550 with the added valuable "Black Type".
Its Time For Magic is the first foal from the unraced mare Tick Tock Time (Savabeel (Aus) - Wait A Minute (NZ)), who descends from the extended family of multiple Group 1 winning mare Legs (Pins (AUS) – River Century (NZ)). She hails from the second crop of resident Little Avondale Stud stallion Per Incanto, who initially stood for $4,000. The athletic filly formed part of a marketing campaign to promote Per Incanto during his early years. Always a keen supporter of the domestic market, Sam Williams, having spotted the keen interest at the initial weanling and yearling sales, selected further progeny from this imposing son of Street Cry (IRE) (Machiavellian(USA) – Helen Street(GB)) for the forthcoming Karaka sales. Queen Of Zealand, bred by JML Bloodstock and raised at Avondale Stud, sold alongside Its Time For Magic in 2014 and was comparatively expensive at $15,000. Sam William's active approach of "Getting them out there to owners and trainers" has paid dividends with success on the racetrack.
Having now sired his fifth individual stakes winner from his first two crops which include Dal Cielo (NZ) (Per Incanto (USA) - Cent From Heaven (NZ)) Group 1 ARC Diamond Stakes, Saracino (Per Incanto (NZ) - Bella Daniela (NZ)) Group 2 Foxbridge Plate, alongside a stream of both domestic and international performers has seen Per Incanto rapid rise through the sires ranks.
Now standing at $15,000, Per Incanto's Roll of Honour already extends to Champion New Zealand First Season Sire by winners and runner-up in the 2YO Sires Premiership for 2014/15. The durability and versatility shown by his progeny has led to him becoming leading 3YO Sire by winners and Champion Second Season Sire by winners in 2015/16.
With an increase in both quantity and quality of mares over the last season and this spring prospects, the ever buoyant Sam Williams is very positive that "the best is yet to come" from Per Incanto .
With Saracino aimed at the Caulfield Guineas and Sam Spratt quoting "I think she could improve again... She's a quick filly and the summer tracks shouldn't bother her" with regards to Its Time For Magic, who is a New Zealand 1,000 Guineas prospect , few would doubt Sam's word!
