Original Sin's win at last Wednesday's South Waikato race meeting was the first New Zealand victory by Ashwell Farm stallion Shinko King.
A half sister to last season's stakes winning two year old Shinnecock, Original Sin was bred by Hamilton couple Bill and Lorraine Sullivan. The filly came from last to beat Sun Wood (Woodborough) and Dane's Commitment (Danehill) by 2 ΒΌ lengths.
Trainer Roger James will look at stepping Original Sin up to stakes company in the $25,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Fillies Classic (1200m) at Avondale on 25 April.
By Fairy King, a full brother to world champion sire Sadler's Wells, Shinko King retired to stud at Lex Farm in Japan and Ashwell Farm in 1998.
"He shuttled to Japan for the first two seasons but we have since negotiated to secure him here in New Zealand and he now resides full time at the farm", said Ashwell Farm's Ray Knight, currently recovering from an attack by another stallion, Phountzi.
Shinko King numbered the G1 Chukyo Takamatsunomiya Cup (1200m) and the Fuji Stakes (1800m) among his eight wins.
Last year's Hong Kong International meeting confirmed the strength of Japanese racing. All three Group One races on the card were won by Japanese-trained runners: Stay Gold (Sunday Silence) Hong Kong Vase 2400m; Eishin Preston (Green Dancer) Hong Kong Mile 1600m; and Agnes Digital (Crafty Prospector) Hong Kong Cup 2000m.
These results followed the victory of Agnes World in the G1 July Cup and El Condor Pasa's second placing to Montjeu in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe G1.
