Sixty Seconds' narrow but impressive victory in last Saturday's $A400,000 STC Arrowfield Stud Stakes 2000m G1 gave her new owner, Englishman Gerald Leigh, a quick return on his investment.
Mr Leigh, winner of the 1995 Duke of Devonshire Award and named TBA Flat Breeder of the Year in 2001, purchased the daughter of Centaine and Fifteen Reasons after her Fayette Park Championship S. G2 win at Ellerslie on 2 March. She had earlier run a fine third in the ARC Mercedes Derby G1 to Leica Guv and Athens.
The owner-manager of Eydon Hall Farm in England, Gerald Leigh figured last year as the owner-breeder of two Group One-winning juveniles, Gossamer (by Sadler's Wells; Fillies Mile) and the colt Act One (by In The Wings; Criterium International). Gossamer is a full sister to the outstanding miler Barathea.
Mr Leigh was also represented last year by Innuendo (by Caerleon from the family of Second Coming, and many top-class European Group winners) who won two Graded races in the United States.
Sixty Seconds has now won four of her nine starts, with earnings of NZ$115,750 and A$267,430.
