Shannon Taylor, winner of the 2003 NZTBA International Management Scholarship
The Auckland branch of the NZTBA is pleased to announce that Shannon
Taylor is the recipient of their 2003 International Management Scholarship. The inaugural 2002 Scholarship was won by Grant Bennett, now working at Ashwell Farm, Cambridge.
Shannon was educated at Pukekohe High School and gained a bachelor's degree in Business Management from the University of Waikato, with a double major in marketing and human resources management.
While at university Shannon worked as yearling manager at Glenmorgan Farm for four seasons from 1997 to 2000. During that time she helped prepare the stud's highest priced yearling, the Slavic-Abbaye filly, sold for $400,000 to Swettenham Stud at the 1999 NZ Premier Sale.
Shannon has also worked for Sydney- based Phillipa Duncan Bloodstock, caring for the $900,000 Danehill- Shindig filly at the 2001 William Inglis Easter Sale.
From May 2001 to July 2002 Shannon worked as a marketing assistant with New Zealand Thoroughbred Marketing. Her work there included compiling the
weekly New Zealand Thoroughbred Update, writing editorial for various industry
publications and managing the company in a caretaker role after the resignation of chief executive Mark Player. She is currently working as the marketing and client liaison manager for Glenmorgan Farm, Auckland.
A keen and accomplished sportswoman, Shannon has played premier netball for several years and represented Counties and Waikato in age group competition.
She says "I feel privileged to have received the Management Scholarship. It's a great initiative of the Auckland NZTBA and over time, will provide substantial long-term benefits to the industry. I'd like to thank the Auckland NZTBA for giving me this opportunity and I'm looking forward to representing our industry."
Shannon will take up her Scholarship in late February next year and will spend two months at each of three famous international studs: The Vinery in Kentucky, USA; Dalham Hall in Newmarket,England; and Coolmore Stud in Ireland.
The Auckland branch, which has under-pinned the funding of the Scholarship with its highly successful Sunline Dinner in June this year, was heartened by the extremely high calibre of this year's candidates.
