Lance O'Sullivan had the top of the jockeys' table at Lion Red Summer Carnival all to himself with eight wins, including Egyptian Raine's G1 Railway Stakes victory, and the G3 Eclipse Stakes on Ubiquitous. His win on Tricky Dancer in the last race yesterday also broke David Peake's record as the most successful jockey at Ellerslie with 393 wins on the course. He's in second place on the national premiership with 66 wins for the season, eleven shy of Michael Walker whose only Carnival winner, Being Supreme, came on the final day.
Lee Rutherford can be well pleased with her work over the four days which produced five wins, among them two black-type successes on Able Attempt and Marcurous.
Greg Childs claimed two of the meeting's Group One plums, the Mercedes New Zealand Derby on St Reims and the Zabeel Classic on Hail, adding the rich Mercedes Super Bonus Fillies Prelude on Foxette for good measure. Leith Innes, Peter Johnson and Samantha Spratt also won three races each and Innes' tally featured the Royal Stakes G2 on Lafleur.
Wily veteran rider Noel Harris' pair of wins included the Lion Red Auckland Cup G1 on Bodie, while Catherine Tremayne bagged the Queen Elizabeth Handicap G2 on El Duce and rode maiden winner Maajin Buu (AUS) on the second day. Michael Coleman and Cameron Lammas also won two races apiece.
Other stakes-winning jockeys were Mark Sweeney (G2 Sedecrem) and Andrew Calder (G2 Natalie Wood).
