Retiring NZTBA councillor & past president John Aubrey
If contested elections are a sign of an organisation's vitality, then the NZTBA is in excellent health. Elections are required in all three regions for the 2003-04 NZTBA council.
Five candidates are standing for four available council positions in the northern region. The nominations are Mark Chitty, John Clydesdale, Peter Francis, Nelson Schick and John Thompson.
The central region sees three nominations for the two positions. Those nominated are Tom Burn, Mick Ormond and Bruce Perry.
The southern region will see an election between Ray Dennis and Glynn Morris for one seat.
Voting papers for the NZTBA Council election must reach the NZTBA's national office by this Friday 20 June.
Those remaining on council and not required to seek re-election this year are president Peter Hutt (southern region), Mark Chittick (northern region) and Sam Williams (central).
John Aubrey has retired after eight years on the council, including one year as president, and a remarkable 30 years service on the NZTBA Waikato branch committee. John's work on bloodstock taxation has been of immense benefit to New Zealand owners and breeders. His last task for the Association will be an analysis of the contribution made by breeders to the finances of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing.
The other retiring councillor is Rick Williams who has served on the council since 1996. Rick played an active role in the NZTBA's response to the Racing Bill, the Pricewaterhouse Coopers report and the working Group report. His extensive practical experience in the industry made him a valuable contributor to many council debates and discussions.
