Waikato Stud has announced its stallion service fees for the upcoming breeding season.
"There have been so many inquiries concerning the stallions I have decided to announce their fees earlier than other years," commented studmaster Mark Chittick.
Waikato Stud's policy is to serve a capped book of 130 mares. Chittick points out that this capped leaves limited space once the stallions have served mares belonging to Waikato Stud and fellow shareholders.
Following a sensational season with six individual stakes winners, including El Segundo and Legs at Group One level, Pins is to stand at $25,000 in the 2006 breeding season.
O'Reilly will remain at $12,000 for the coming season. "He continues to do a great job throughout Australasia and Asia and is fifth on the sires' list in Hong Kong," said Chittick. "On the local scene Kerry O'Reilly, O'Borio, The One, Master Hunter and Walsburgs Pride have been great flag-bearers. Then there's Singapore galloper Arenti – now the winner of six from seven. At $12,000 O'Reilly is great value for any breeder."
Off the back of a highly successful sales series, top English miler No Excuse Needed is to stand at $10,000. At Karaka Premier his yearlings sold up to $500,000 and averaged $142,000 - 18 times his service fee.
Cox Plate victor Savabeel will again stand at $35,000 after covering an impressive book of mares at his first season at stud last year. His 2005 book included River Century, Logical Lady, Nicole's Niner, Vedodara, Sound Lover, Tall Poppy, Ugachaka, Starcent and Blanchard.
Completing the stallion roster for 2006 at Waikato Stud is the Ascot Vale Stakes winner Scaredee Cat. This good looking son of Tale of the Cat offers will stand at a fee of $5,000.
"He ran the second fastest time ever when he won the Ascot Vale, which is proving to be a time-honoured race for sires of the future with past winners including Vain, Century, Kaapstad and Encosta de Lago," said Chittick. "He covered some top class mares in his first season, so with this support he'll get every chance."
"We feel our stallion fees are set ideally in the market place offering Australasian breeders the opportunity to breed top class racehorses at a realistic price," said Chittick.
"We're looking forward to a highly successful breeding season, especially in the knowledge that measures put forward by Racing Minister Winston Peters will be in place by August 1.
"Waikato's policy of stallion ownership fits well with the revised write-down guidelines, while the package overall is a fantastic stimulus for breeders and all industry stakeholders."
