Last season's outstanding juvenile Jokers Wild (Black Minnaloushe-Miss Rory by Rory's Jester) heads the 2006 New Zealand Two-Year-Old Free Handicap released today by the NZTBA.
Jokers Wild won four of his eight starts last season, including the Ellerslie and Manawatu Sires' Produce S., both at Group One level. He was bred by Jo Wilding of Te Mania Thoroughbreds, Canterbury, in partnership with Messrs B.T. Hoong and C.W. Wong. He was trained by Michael and Paul Moroney, and Andrew Scott for Messrs N.J. Carter, G.J. Christini & Miss B.M. Paterson.
Senior handicapper Dean Nowell has awarded Jokers Wild 60 kg, ahead of three fillies, Chant (Traditionally), on 56.5 kg, and Italia (Stravinsky) and Matamata Breeders' S. G2 winner Naturo (Postponed), both on 56 kg. Jokers Wild's Group One-placed stablemate The One (O'Reilly) is weighted at 55.5 kg, and followed by five-time Group & Listed placegetter Habana (Danasinga) on 55 kg.
