The NZTBA has been invited to celebrate 60 years of The Queen's reign. The Queen has been the Association's Patron since 1990 when she opened the new office at Ellerslie Racecourse, and has had a lifetime passion in all horses, especially thoroughbreds.
In recent correspondence to the NZTBA, Mr John Warren, the Queen's Racing Manager, commented "Her Majesty derives tremendous pleasure from any winner, however great or small. Her deep interest has no boundaries, from which mare or filly is introduced to the stud, to the intrigue of the mating plans. The development of every individual foal and yearling, to the training of her horses and every aspect of a riding plan, even down to the going on the racecourse, all thoroughly enthrals her and she never tires of wanting to understand every aspect."
The NZTBA will be hosted by the Governor General Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae and Lady Janine Mateparae at Government House in Auckland on Tuesday 26th June for a celebration dinner . The black tie dinner will be attended by 70 members, including some Life, Gold Badge and members who have contributed to the Association and the Sunline Education Trust over the years.
NZTBA CEO Michael Martin said, "the Association is very honoured to be invited to participate in the Diamond Jubilee Year and is looking forward to a very special occasion."
During the evening there will be an auction of four stallion nominations which have been generously donated to raise funds for the Sunline Education Trust.
The Trust was set up originally in 2001 with funds raised at an NZTBA Auckland Branch function to honour the great mare Sunline on her retirement, and for the past 10 years the Trust has funded young New Zealanders to gain invaluable international experience at three of the world's leading thoroughbred breeding establishments in England, Ireland and the United States of America.
The nominations to be auctioned are: Darci Brahma donated by the Darci Brahma Syndicate, Iffraaj (GB) donated by Darley and the Iffraaj Stallion Partnership, Shocking (AUS) donated by the Shocking Syndicate and Stravinsky (USA), donated by Cambridge Stud. Adding considerably to the nominations, the successful bidders will receive foetal insurance donated by New Zealand Bloodstock, and stud veterinary costs donated by Cambridge Vets, Dr Mark Chitty, Hamilton Vets, Marks and Ewen and Matamata Vets. As the Sunline Trust is a registered charitable trust the nominations will be GST exempt.
Anyone interested in purchasing any of the nominations may do so by contacting Michael Martin on 09 525 2428.
