A long awaited breeding programme is about to hit the screens on Trackside.
Kiwi Bred will commence screening on Wednesday August 1 at 8pm on Trackside and every Wednesday after that for the next 11 weeks. Each programme will be repeated on Thursday and Friday at 11.30am and again on Sunday at 10.30am.
According to Tim Aldridge the Senior Producer at Trackside/TAB TV there had been a lot of talk for quite some time about putting together a weekly programme that showed a more expansive look at the breeding industry and finally it has come together.
"Our advertising man Luke Walding came up with the concept and went about selling it to the various studs that are involved, and over the past few months we have been getting together the material," he said.
"On the programme we are looking at the stallions, old and new on a number of stud farms and the various stud masters have been interviewed by Sky Sports presenter and former international cricketer Simon Doull.
"Some of the studs involved that have been filmed already include; Cambridge Stud, Waikato Stud, Windsor Park, Rich Hill, The Oaks, Little Avondale, Fairdale and Goodwood. We also have some South Island stud's onboard and will commence filming down there shortly when Simon returns from his commentating commitments in the West Indies and Sri Lanka
"We were looking for a fresh face to use on the programme and Simon has a passion for the thoroughbred industry and seems to have a good handle on it. He currently races horses out of Chris Wood's stable and was involved in the fringes of the industry while growing up in the Pukekohe area," he said.
The show which is all pre-recorded is produced by Jayne Ivil who has done all the research and filming of the various pieces. As well as the Doull interviews with the studs and stallions, each week the show will feature a section with Central Districts veterinarian Tim Pearce highlighting various veterinary procedures.
On alternate weeks the show will also feature a report on what is happening with New Zealand bred horses in Asia and Australia. Mike Kneebone will present the section from Asia and TVN reporter Richard Haynes will file material from Australia.
"We are very pleased to have a presenter of the calibre of Richard Haynes on the show and Mike Kneebone has already submitted some great material on Little Bridge following his Royal Ascot performance and also the star of Singapore racing Super Easy.
"The programme has a rustic, rural look about it and is come together well, we hope it will be well received and will be able to be extend beyond the first series," he said.
