Waikato breeder Joan Egan, owner of Legacy Lodge, is getting behind the inaugural NZTBA National Breeding Awards being held at Cambridge next month, sponsoring the Sir Patrick and Justine Lady Hogan Breeder of the Year Award.
“I am delighted to sponsor this award,” Egan said earlier this week.
“Sir Patrick and Justine Lady Hogan have an outstanding record from their years establishing and developing Cambridge Stud.
“We don’t hear anything about excellence these days. This is the word that so aptly describes the results of this record. A Stud recognised the world over and two people who are admired and celebrated for excellence in their field.”
Egan is picking up the tab for a beautiful bronze horse trophy commissioned by the NZTBA and crafted by Cambridge sculptor Nicola Lewis. It is a perpetual trophy and each year the winner will receive a miniature bronze to keep for themselves.
The NZTBA is humbled by Egan’s generosity.
“It’s such a generous donation from Joan especially in these uncertain times,” said CEO Justine Sclater.
“We had planned these National Awards along with the Waikato Branch before the Covid crisis and it’s great that we can now go ahead and hold them. It is important that we honour and give credit to the breeders who have achieved success in the somewhat disrupted season.
“We have timed the celebration to run in conjunction with the Waikato Branch’s annual stallion tour, so with stud visits on the Saturday and Sunday, and the awards evening on the Saturday evening it should be a fabulous weekend to visit Waikato."
Nominations for the Sir Patrick and Justine Lady Hogan award will be made by the various NZTBA branches and the nominee must be a financial member of the NZTBA.
The Awards will be held at the Don Rowlands Centre, Lake Karapio, near Cambridge on August 22.
The evening will also include the awards previously promoted by the Waikato Branch for the breeders of 21 Group One winners this season as well as New Zealand’s three stallion awards – the Dewar, Centaine, and Grosvenor awards.
The winners of the NZTBA Personality of the Year and Mary Lynne Ryan Young Achiever of the Year will also be announced.
