An enjoyable morning was had by all breeders who attended the Auckland Stud Tour hosted by Haunui Farm and Westbury Stud on Sunday. The mixture of fine weather and hospitality along with stallions, which are a credit to both farms, saw a large crowd of 120 people drawn from around the country to attend this well organised annual event, many making their first trip north of the Bombay Hills.
Haunui Farm and Westbury Stud very kindly donated a service to either Ferlax (NZ) (Pentire (GB) – Legs Akimbo (NZ)) or Redwood (GB) (High Chaparral (IRE) – Arum Lily (USA)) respectively to the Stallion Service draw which was won by Auckland branch member Brian Collins.
Highly delighted Brian, a past president of the Auckland TBA, who runs Collair Air Transport Ltd, has selected to patronise Redwood (GB) with Cabella (NZ) (Senor Pete (USA) – Miss Fiesta (NZ). The Seven time winner and Stakes placed Cabella (NZ) who has a Swiss Ace(AUS) (Secret Savings(USA) – Rapid Serve(USA) filly foal at foot, will be prepared and walked in from Delph Common, an adjustment farm run in partnership with his partner Sandra Townsend.
"There is great talk about the Redwood 3 year olds," Brian said, "Cabella (NZ) is one of my better mares and I look forward to continue Redwood's good work."
"This is an exciting time for the Auckland thoroughbred area," Shannon Taylor, Auckland branch secretary from Haunui Farm said, "We have the great mix of champion, and young up and coming sires to offer." With Champion 2 year old sire Showcasing (GB) (Oasis Dream (GB) – Arabesque (GB)) and the enticing Reliable Man (GB) (Dalakhani (IRE) – On Fair Stage (IRE)), who will see his first runners this season, amongst the stallion ranks, few would doubt those words. - By Richard Wright
