The NZTBA administers five highly prized national awards: three for stallions, one for broodmares and one for breeders. These awards are presented at the annual Mercedes New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing Awards dinner held in August or September each year.
In addition, the Association commissions the annual Free Handicaps for 2yos & 3yos.
Each award has its own selection protocol, and its own historical list of winners which can be found via the navigation panel.
NZTBA branches also present their own regional awards - see the branch pages for more information.

It's notable that Guyno and Legs are both from River Centuiry, and like all but one of Garry's black-type performers this season, by Waikato Stud sires. Garry has now won this award four times, the last three in successive years (1993, 2005, 2006 and 2007).
